Grandma’s Recipes – Angel Biscuits
One of the recipes I grew up making from my Grandmother’s collection of recipes were the classic angel biscuits!
I don’t know how angel biscuits got their name, but I do know they are delicious. A bit of kitchen wisdom says that these were created for young brides. As the biscuits have both yeast and baking powder in them, they are bound to rise nice and fluffy one way or the other! Which was important for a new wife trying to impress her new in-laws! 🙂
This is another recipe that can easily be scaled up or down depending on how many biscuits you want.
Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm water.
Sift together all the dry ingredients.
Cut in the shortening or butter.
Add the yeast mixture and the buttermilk to the dry ingredients.
Knead until the mixture holds together well.
Roll out and cut biscuits or at this point you can refrigerate the dough until you are ready to use it.
Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.
