Grandma’s Recipes – Texas Hash

Since it was named after the place I currently live, I couldn’t let this recipe go untried! Casseroles were very popular during the ’50s and ’60s as women were beginning to take a bigger part in the work force world. Easy, quick dinners like casseroles found their moment to shine. The advent of quick dinners (under 30 minutes! Only 5 ingredients!) started during this time.

This is wonderful, as my grandmother noted on her original recipe, with a tossed salad and extra rice. I served it with cornbread 🙂 You can use whatever meat that you like or have on hand. I used ground venison when I tried the recipe. Also, I left out the sugar as I didn’t think it was necessary and added a dash of some more savory spices like cumin, paprika and garlic powder.
