Homemade Peppermint Patties

If you are looking to try your hand at candy-making, but are still a little intimidated by the whole process, then this is the perfect recipe for you! It doesn’t have you boiling sugar to the hard ball stage or mixing until your arm is aching, it’s a very simple recipe that has always given me wonderful results! And it you love the cool, refreshing taste of peppermint patties, then you will love the chance to make your own! These would also make a lovely gift 🙂

 

 1 Box (1 pound) Confectioner's Sugar (About 4 cups)
 3 tbsp Butter or Margarine, Softened
 3 tsp Peppermint Extract
 ½ tsp Vanilla Extract
 ¼ cup Evaporated Milk
 2 cups Semisweet Chocolate Chips
 2 tbsp Shortening or Butter

In a bowl, combine the first four ingredients.

Add milk and mix well.

Roll into 1 inch balls and place on a waxed paper lined cookie sheet.

Chill for 20 minutes.

Flatten with a glass or your hand to 1/4 inch and then chill again for another 30 minutes.

In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips and shortening.

Dip the patties and place on waxed paper to harden.
