Maple Shortbread

I couldn’t let our month-long food adventure in Canada pass by without sharing a recipe using one of Canada’s major food products – maple syrup! After all, they are the world’s largest producer of maple syrup 🙂 Maple syrup comes from the sugar maple tree and involves a long process of collecting the sap, boiling it down and straining to make the maple syrup. The Native American population were the first to use maple syrup and later taught the European settlers how to collect the sweet treasure.

These cookies are a family favorite! The maple flavor really comes through and they make the whole house smell amazing as they bake. I recommend enjoying these rich cookies with a strong cup of tea or coffee!
