Summer is just around the corner! This year I'm pl Summer is just around the corner! This year I'm planning to step back from posting on the blog to focus on some other projects. Between work, teaching herbal classes, study and a very EXCITING project I have going on, I haven't been able to fully spend time researching for the food history topics that I have lined up. But! I taught a class last week at our local garden cen I taught a class last week at our local garden center all about edible flowers and how to crystallize then! 🌺🌸🌼 It was such a fun time and everyone got to go home with a little package of edible flowers and mint. Because leaves crystallize really well too and sugared mint leaves taste amazing! Like perfect mint candy 😁 Did you know that in Roman times, edible flowers use to be super popular? Finishing out our United Kingdom month with making Finishing out our United Kingdom month with making some sourdough crumpets! Crumpets are believed to have originated in Wales. They are softer then English muffins because they are made with a yeasted batter. These that I made are straight up sourdough with a little sugar, salt and baking soda. Did you know that there are dozens and dozens of edible flowers out there? Most people know that you can eat pansies and nasturtiums, roses and lavender, but did you know you can also eat fuchsia, borage, marigolds and jasmine? Lately, I've really been enjoying this cookbook pu Lately, I've really been enjoying this cookbook put out by the Smithsonian Institute! It's full of wonderful American food history with delicious recipes included. I especially loved how they included some famous state recipes and a couple of sections about famous chefs and people who have made major contributions to the culinary field like George Washington Carver. One of our family favorite bread recipes is coming One of our family favorite bread recipes is coming to the blog today! 😋 This is a recipe passed along by my aunt. The oats and cinnamon give the bread a special touch that I have never seen in any other bread recipe. And I love that one recipe makes two loaves!
